Earlier last month, it was reported that Vauxhall Zafira
models were catching fire and now, Vauxhall are to recall 220,00 cars. Only
models made between the years 2005-2014, with or without air conditioning are
involved in the recall.
Owners will be notified if their car is included in the
recall from the 12th November and it has been reported that
inspections of each car will take from 30 to 60 minutes.
Vauxhall is to conduct an investigation into the heating and
ventilation system after it was found that models were made with blower motor
resistors with non-genuine parts and improper repairs to thermal fuses.
On the matter, Vauxhall have stated "Analysis is still
ongoing to get to the root cause. We need to analyse a significant number of
vehicles in order that a robust fix can be generated based on facts."
It’s been reported that around 100 cars have been believed
to have caught fire. After complaints were filed, Vauxhall conducted an
internal investigation and found around 20 models that have been affected.
A spokesman for Vauxhall has stated "While the number
of incidents is very low in proportion to the number of vehicles on the road,
we take this issue very seriously and will take further action.
"The safety of our customers is the number one
priority. Our investigations have found that a number of incidents have
occurred due to previous repairs being performed improperly or using certain
non-genuine parts."
