Lewis Hamilton won the Russian GP this Sunday, beating the
likes of Sebastian Vettel and Nico Rosberg, putting him another step closer to
a third world championship title.
Hamilton was behind Mercedes teammate Rosberg in second
place in the early laps, but took the lead after Rosberg was forced to retire
after problems with his throttle. Vettel came forward to second place and
Sergio Perez rounded up the top three.
Fellow Brit Jenson Button came in 9th place, beating
his McLaren teammate Fernando Alonso who finished the race in 11th
place.
In the title standings, Hamilton, who has been on top of the
leaderboard for a while now, has added a whopping 66 points between current second
place holder, Vettel, beating Rosberg who has moved down to third place. Even
though there are four races left, Hamilton only needs nine more points than
Vettle and 2 more than Rosberg to win the title.
Funnily, Hamilton isn’t only making headlines due to his win
but for spraying Russian President Vladamir Putin. After Putin presented
Hamilton with his winner’s trophy, Hamilton went to spray the celebratory
champagne, accidently splashing some on the President’s suit.
Unsurprisingly, the world took it to Twitter to share the
Hamilton v Putin jokes.
Nevertheless, Hamilton is all smiles, on the brink of
another world championship title. Watch him in action on October 25th
for the US Grand Prix.
