It has been confirmed that the new Maserati Levante SUV will
debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2016. The car was originally meant to
be showcased this year, but production shifted from the US to Italy which led
to delays.
This will be Maserati’s first ever SUV but will look different
from the initial Kubang designs. There are a few leaked official sketches of the
new car, reportedly to compete with cars like the Jaguar F-Type.
The specs have been revealed to be a pair of twin-turbo V6s
and a top spec V8 petrol, including three diesels, ranging from 247bhp to
345bhp. Four wheel drive and auto gearboxes will be standard in all Levantes.
Other details that have been revealed are the Levante will have a raised ride
height, long wheelbase and wider track.
Maserati boss Harald Wester has confirmed that
pre-production models have already started and that the car will be “100%
Maserati”, with no inspiration from the Fiat-Chrysler group, in particular, SUV
experts Jeep.
